Ummah
Ummah is an Arabic word which means ‘nation’ or ‘community’. It is commonly used to refer to the Muslims of the world. Although divided into different sects, the rules or principles that govern a Muslim’s life are the same for everyone. For instance: the belief of one God, Allah Almighty, praying five times a day, giving Zakat (donation) to the poor, pilgrimage (hajj) to the Holy city of Makkah, respect for women, fasting and so on. One of the most important life governing concepts is that of every good deed being rewarded by Allah, which helps in increasing chances of entering Jannah (heaven). All these factors impart a feeling of unity and brotherhood amongst the Muslims of the world.
The Fall
The Muslim Ummah is guided by the rules and ways of life described by Allah in the Holy Quran. These are great guidelines for life which, if followed correctly (and with devotion) ensure great success in this life and the one hereafter. The guidelines are so magnificent and unparalleled that they also ensure greater unity among all Muslims, account for the poor and needy, impart a great image of Muslims to others (and hence they would also be compelled to join Islam). If followed correctly, there would be no poor in the entire Muslim Ummah! During the time of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) and for many centuries after that, the Muslim Ummah has succeeded and flourished greatly. Now, however, it is failing greatly and in many aspects. It is the responsibility of each to make Dua for it so that it may achieve success in the different aspects of life like before.
The Cause
We must understand that whatever happens to us, it is only what we allow to happen to us. Given the greatness of Allah, nothing can touch us if we follow His ways. One of the greatest and obvious reasons is that we have now allowed non Islamic cultures in our lives. We are now starting to consider many infuriating or outrageous things as ‘normal’, such as: dressing up of our women in obscene clothing, music, concerts, vulgar fashion shows, and countless other acts of great sin. We are beginning to ignore them. By ignoring them, we are ignoring (or not realizing) the importance of Islamic ways that our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) described. History also tells us that whichever nation that forgets its history and old ways is doomed to lose it.
Muslims have now forgotten the importance of brotherhood and unity and begun quarrelling among themselves for petty differences and issues. Similarly, the five pillars of Islam, which are the fundamental part of a Muslim are no longer given their much deserved attention. Such Zakat (donation), which accounts for the poor and needy is now less attended than before. People are now greedy about their savings and prefer to keep their money rather than giving to the poor.
Conclusion
These were only two of the reasons of the failure of Muslim Ummah whereas the list of faults in us is a vast one. It is time that we look back on our history and learn well from it. Abstain from the actions that led to our destruction and repeat the ones that led to great success. There is an important thing which is to learn the Quran, for those who wants to do so, I would like to recommend a Noorani Qaida mobile app. It is a beautiful app with great functionality and features. However, if you want to have the blessings of the holy Quran, then, having Surah Rahman in your mobile is a good idea.
